Why columns can be risky

Some parsers read straight across the page and mix sidebar skills into your job history. Modern parsers often cope, but you cannot tell which one an employer uses.

Keep both versions

Photo guidance

In the US, UK and Canada most recruiters prefer no photo. In parts of Europe, the Middle East and Asia a professional photo is common. The photo is optional.

Are two-column resumes ATS-friendly?

Sometimes. The words usually come through, but the reading order can get scrambled by older parsers. For portal applications, use a single-column template and keep this one for direct sends.

Should I put a photo on my resume?

Follow local norms. In the US, UK and Canada leave it off. Where photos are expected, use a simple, professional headshot.
