Registered Nurse Resume Template
Hospital recruiters screen nursing resumes for license, unit experience, and certifications before anything else, and most health systems run applications through Workday, Taleo or iCIMS. This RN template puts licensure up front and keeps every field parse-safe.

Layout: Classic
Health systems lean conservative. The Classic layout reads as formal and stays single-column so your license number and dates parse correctly.
Section order: Summary, Licenses and Certifications, Clinical Experience, Skills, Education. New grads should add clinical rotations as experience entries.
How to fill in a registered nurse resume
Put licensure where it cannot be missed
State, license type, and status (for example, RN, Washington, active) belong near the top. Recruiters often filter on it before reading anything else. Include compact license status if you have it.
Name the unit, the ratio, and the population
Med-surg, ICU, ED, L&D and telemetry are different jobs. Say which unit, how many beds, your typical patient ratio, and the population you cared for.
List your EHR by name
Epic, Cerner (Oracle Health), Meditech. Hiring managers want to know your ramp-up time, and the ATS often searches for the system name.
Quantify quality, not just volume
Falls, CLABSI or CAUTI rates, HCAHPS scores, discharge teaching, or precepting new nurses. One or two of these beats a list of tasks every RN does.
Turn duties into results
Recruiters skim for outcomes. Rewrite task bullets with what changed and how you know.
Before
Took care of patients on a busy floor.
After
Managed 5 to 6 telemetry patients per shift on a 32-bed unit, escalating rhythm changes per protocol with zero missed alarms in annual audit.
Before
Helped train new nurses.
After
Precepted 7 new graduate RNs through 12-week orientation; all completed on schedule and 6 were still on the unit a year later.

Registered Nurse resume FAQ
Should I include my RN license number on my resume?
List license type, state and status. Many nurses leave the number off the resume and provide it on the application, which asks for it anyway. Either is acceptable.
How should a new grad nurse list clinical rotations?
Add each rotation as an entry with the unit, facility, hours, and two bullets on what you did. Put them above work history unrelated to healthcare.
What certifications should be on a nursing resume?
BLS is expected. Add ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC or specialty certifications such as CCRN or CEN when you hold them, with the issuing body and expiration month.
