Data Analyst Resume Template
Data analyst resumes fail in two ways: a wall of tools with no outcomes, or outcomes with no sign of how you got them. This template pairs each tool with a decision it informed, which is what analytics managers screen for.

Layout: HireFlow
Analytics teams hire through standard ATS portals and search for tool names. A single-column layout keeps SQL, Python and BI tools in clean, searchable text.
Section order: Summary, Skills, Experience, Projects, Education. Career changers should put a portfolio project above unrelated experience.
How to fill in a data analyst resume
Tie every tool to a decision
'Built a Tableau dashboard' is a task. 'Built a Tableau churn dashboard the retention team used to target 4,000 at-risk accounts' is a result. Show who used your work and what they did with it.
Be specific about SQL
Window functions, CTEs, query optimization, warehouse names (BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift). Specifics help you pass both the ATS and the technical screen.
Link one portfolio project
A public dashboard or a notebook on GitHub gives the hiring manager proof before the take-home. One strong project beats five tutorials.
Translate for non-analysts
Recruiters are often not technical. Lead bullets with the business result (revenue, cost, time saved), then name the method.
Turn duties into results
Recruiters skim for outcomes. Rewrite task bullets with what changed and how you know.
Before
Created reports in SQL and Excel.
After
Automated the weekly sales report with SQL and dbt, saving the finance team about 5 hours a week and removing manual copy errors.
Before
Analyzed customer data.
After
Built a churn model in Python that flagged 4,000 at-risk accounts; targeted outreach cut quarterly churn from 6.1% to 5.2%.

Data Analyst resume FAQ
What should a data analyst resume include?
SQL and at least one BI tool, a scripting language if you use one, bullets that link analysis to business decisions, and a portfolio link for early-career candidates.
Should I list Excel on a data analyst resume?
Yes, especially for business-facing roles. Be specific: pivot tables, Power Query, lookups, and modeling. Many postings still list it first.
How do I get a data analyst job with no experience?
Build one or two projects on real public data, write up the question, method and result, and put them above unrelated experience. Use analysis you did in a non-analyst job too.
