Build a UK CV for mid-level sales roles: two-page layout, quota bullets, CRM tools, and a five-step tailoring pass. Run a free file check before upload.

11 min read · Layout first, tailor second

You've got a SaaS account manager posting open until midnight and a CV that still reads like a US resume. British hiring teams expect a personal profile, British spelling, and room for two pages of pipeline proof. The parser expects a boring single column it can read left to right, and you can't fix that with a prettier template.

Before you rebuild anything, check your resume for free so you're not tailoring a file that already fails a plain-text paste. Layout fixes come first. Tailoring comes second. Both take less than an hour when you follow a fixed order.

Mid-level here means you own a patch, carry a number, and run your own pipeline in Salesforce or HubSpot. You're not entry-level with one internship bullet. You're not a sales director yet either. The CV should show quota rhythm, client logos or sectors, and the CRM workflows you actually touch weekly.

This page walks through UK layout rules that differ from a US resume, then a five-step tailoring pass you can run on every posting. You'll leave with copy-paste blocks, before and after lines, and a file recruiters can forward without reformatting.

Quick Wins

  • Drop the photo before any ATS upload.
  • Put quota and CRM in the first bullet under your current title.
  • Cap the file at two pages with 11-point Calibri or Arial.
  • Mirror the posting job title in your personal profile line.

What UK sales CVs expect that US files skip

US resumes compress to one page and bury the summary. UK CVs for mid-level sales give you two pages and a personal profile recruiters read first. That profile is not a mission statement. It's three lines: sector, quota proof, and the CRM the team runs.

British English throughout. Organisation, programme, licence. A US spell-checker will not catch every mismatch. Run a UK English pass before export.

No photo on portal uploads. Direct recruiter email sometimes gets a photo in the UK. Workday, Greenhouse, and Taleo imports do not need one. Text beats decoration.

Reverse chronology with dates on the right or under the title. Month and year is fine: Jan 2022 to Present. Keep the same pattern on every role.

Before: One-page US resume, no profile, "Responsible for new business development."
After: Two-page UK CV, three-line profile, "Grew new-logo revenue 18% YoY in Salesforce across 42 mid-market accounts."

If you're applying from outside the UK, see our guide on adapting a US resume to UK CV norms for spelling and section-order shifts. This page stays on mid-level sales specifics.

Sector still matters on page one. A fintech AE CV should name payment volumes or compliance wins. A manufacturing rep should show deal size and cycle length. A media sales CV should show campaign revenue and renewal rate. Same layout rules, different numbers in the bullets.

Edge case: moving from customer success into a hunting role. Lead with any new-logo or expansion revenue you owned, even if your title said Success Manager. Retitle only if the work matches and you can defend it in a screen.

UK CV for mid-level sales roles: build the two-page layout

Four layout moves come before tailoring. Skip any one and you'll fight the parser or the hiring manager's skim pattern.

Step 1: Header block and personal profile

Name, city, phone, email, LinkedIn URL on one or two lines. No text boxes. Under that, three profile lines:

Personal Profile
Mid-level B2B SaaS account manager with six years closing mid-market deals in fintech.
Hit 112% of annual quota in FY24 while managing 38 accounts in Salesforce.
Specialist in discovery-led selling, renewal expansion, and HubSpot pipeline hygiene.

Swap sector, quota number, and CRM for your world. The first eight words of line two should name a metric a sales manager recognises.

Step 2: Quota bullets on your current role

Under Professional Experience, your latest title gets four to five bullets. At least three carry numbers: revenue, pipeline, conversion, cycle time, or retention. Mid-level sales lives in those figures.

Before: "Managed key accounts and built relationships with stakeholders."
After: "Grew portfolio ARR from £1.2M to £1.6M in 14 months by upselling analytics modules to 11 existing logos."

Lead with the outcome. Name the tool in the same bullet when the posting asks for it: "Maintained 94% forecast accuracy in HubSpot across a £3.4M pipeline."

Step 3: CRM and sales stack placement

Do not bury CRM proof in a skills grid alone. Put Salesforce, HubSpot, or Dynamics inside experience bullets first. Then list the same labels in a flat Skills section on page two.

Mid-level postings often name methodology too: MEDDIC, SPIN, Challenger. One bullet that shows how you used it beats five methodology words floating without context.

Skills block example: B2B new business · Salesforce CRM · HubSpot · pipeline forecasting · contract negotiation · SaaS renewals · MEDDIC · Excel · presentation delivery

Step 4: Trim to two pages without dropping proof

Page one: profile, current role, previous role if it's strong. Page two: earlier roles (two bullets each max), education, certifications, skills. Cut volunteer lines and old retail jobs unless they prove transferable quota work.

Single column only. 11-point Calibri or Arial. Standard headings: Personal Profile, Professional Experience, Education, Skills. No tables, icons, or sidebar skills columns. Parsers read UK corporate stacks the same way they read US files.

Save the master as DOCX. Export PDF only after tailoring when the portal accepts both. File name: Firstname-Lastname-CV.pdf or .docx. No version numbers. Recruiters search inboxes by surname when they forward you to a hiring manager.

Copy-paste quota bullet bank (swap numbers for yours)

- Closed £840K new ARR in FY24, 108% of individual quota across 26 mid-market logos.
- Shortened average sales cycle from 74 to 52 days by standardising discovery calls in HubSpot.
- Grew net retention from 88% to 94% through quarterly business reviews with top ten accounts.
- Built pipeline of £2.1M at 3.2x coverage using MEDDIC stage gates in Salesforce.

Run the five-step tailoring pass on tonight's posting

Layout is your master file. Tailoring is what you do per application. These five steps take twenty minutes once the master exists.

1. Highlight posting must-haves

Open the job description. Mark quota language, sector, CRM name, deal size, and methodology. Copy exact phrases into a side list. You'll place each one once in the profile or a bullet.

2. Rewrite the personal profile

Mirror the posting job title in line one if it's accurate. "Account Manager" beats an internal title like "Client Success Partner" when the posting says Account Manager.

3. Rebuild the top three bullets

Your current role's first three bullets should each hit a must-have with a number. If the posting stresses renewals, move your best renewal bullet to the top. If it stresses new logo hunting, lead with new business ARR.

4. Align the skills block

Twelve to fifteen terms. Use the posting's exact CRM and sector labels. Drop skills you cannot defend in an interview. Every term should already appear in a bullet above.

5. Plain-text test, then export

Paste the CV into Notepad or TextEdit. If contact details, job titles, and bullets stay in order, export PDF or DOCX per the upload field. If lines scramble, remove tables and text boxes before you retry.

Before tailoring: Generic profile, bullets about "relationship building," skills list with twelve CRMs.
After tailoring: Profile names fintech SaaS and Salesforce, top bullet shows £ ARR and renewal rate, skills list matches the posting's twelve terms.

Where mid-level sales CVs break in the parser

UK sales candidates often lose interviews on formatting, not on quota. These patterns show up on corporate uploads every week.

Two-column Canva templates: skills import before job titles. Rebuild in Word, single column, then export.

Graphics for "top performer" badges: parsers skip images. Put the ranking in a bullet: "Ranked #2 of 14 AEs on Q2 new ARR."

Duty bullets with no numbers: recruiters skim past them even when the parser passes the file. One metric per bullet minimum on page one.

I've screened mid-level sales CVs in Greenhouse where the candidate hit quota every year, but the file was a two-column template and the CRM name never appeared in plain text. Fix the layout and the story finally reads.

LinkedIn URL formatting: paste the full linkedin.com/in/ path as plain text. Do not hide it behind a button shape or icon. Parsers often drop styled hyperlinks.

References line: "References available on request" wastes a line mid-level candidates do not need. Use the space for another quota bullet or a certification instead.

Score the posting before you upload

After your tailoring pass, paste the posting and your CV into the job match score tool to see which must-haves still sit only in the skills list. Move any gap into a bullet before you submit.

Run the finished file through the ATS checker to confirm contact fields and section order survive import. A clean parser read won't replace weak quota proof, but a scrambled file won't get read at all.

When the portal asks for a cover letter, draft it after your CV passes import via the cover letter generator . Match the same plain formatting you proved in the CV file.

Do this now: Paste your CV into plain text. If your email address is missing, fix the header before you tailor a single bullet.

Your layout and tailoring order tonight

Build the two-page UK layout with profile, quota bullets, and CRM proof in the experience section. Run the five-step tailoring pass on the posting in front of you. Plain-text test last.

Job searching is slow work. A file that reads clearly in Workday and in a recruiter inbox removes one variable you control tonight.

Frequently asked questions

Two pages is the norm for mid-level sales in the UK. Page one carries your profile, current role, and strongest quota proof. Page two holds earlier roles, education, and certifications. If you are under five years in sales, one strong page can work when every bullet carries a number.

Skip the photo when you apply through an ATS portal. UK recruiters accept photos on direct submissions more often than US hiring teams do, but parsers treat images as noise. Save the headshot for LinkedIn and keep the CV file text-only.

List the CRM named in the posting first: Salesforce, HubSpot, Microsoft Dynamics, or Zoho. Put the tool inside a bullet with pipeline or conversion proof, then repeat the exact label in your Skills block. Do not list ten systems you touched once.

Yes. Three lines under your contact block work best: years in sector, quota track record, and the CRM or methodology the posting names. UK hiring managers expect this summary. US-style one-line summaries feel thin here.

Read the upload field. When both PDF and DOCX are accepted, export a text-selectable PDF from a single-column Word file after your tailoring pass. When the portal asks for Word only, send DOCX. Match the field, not your habit.
