The Education section already says you're a junior marketing major at State U with a 3.6. Marketing intern

Creative and excellent communication are invisible to parsers. Canva, Meta Business Suite, and a follower metric are not. The outcome is illustrative inside the sample line, not a claim about all marketing interns.
Finance intern
Before: Detail-oriented finance student eager to apply academic knowledge in a professional setting and support financial analysis teams.

Detail-oriented and eager repeat on half the campus stack. Excel, three-statement model, and DCF mirror language from corporate finance reqs. One line does the screening work the weak paragraph never attempted.
Data analyst intern
Before: Analytics-focused student passionate about data-driven decision making seeking an internship to develop technical and business skills.

Passionate about data-driven decision making is filler. Python, pandas, and Tableau are filters. The row count lives inside an example bullet pattern, not as a statistic about hiring outcomes.
Human resources intern
Before: People-oriented business student seeking an HR internship to learn recruitment processes and improve interpersonal skills in a corporate environment.
After: HR intern | Scheduled 35 campus interviews in Greenhouse for a student consulting club | Comfortable with screening notes and offer packets.
People-oriented tells a recruiter nothing they can't guess. Greenhouse, interview scheduling, and screening notes align with how corporate HR teams actually work. Naming the ATS you touched beats saying interpersonal skills again.
Mechanical engineering intern
Before: Hardworking mechanical engineering student looking for an internship opportunity to apply classroom knowledge and work with cross-functional teams on innovative products.
After: Mechanical engineering intern | Modeled bracket assemblies in SolidWorks for a robotics club competition | Prototyped PLA parts on a lab FDM printer.
Hardworking and innovative are noise. SolidWorks, bracket assemblies, and FDM printer are proof. A manufacturing req that lists CAD and prototyping sees an immediate skill match.
Copy-paste objective skeleton
[Internship title from posting] | [One tool plus one outcome from a project or job] | [One line on what you will do in the role].
Example: Supply chain intern | Cut stockouts 9% in a class logistics simulation using Excel solver | Ready to support demand planning uploads in SAP.
Swap bracketed lines for each application batch. Don't stack five tools in the objective. Put the second and third tools in bullet one where both parsers and humans expect proof.
Edge case: career fair version vs tailored upload
At a fair you might hand a general PDF with a broader objective: Business intern | Excel budgeting for student government | Open to operations or finance rotations. Before you submit online, tighten the first segment to the exact title on the Workday req. Generic fair lines rarely survive keyword filters.
Edge case: returning intern at the same company. Lead with Returning [function] intern | Prior summer shipped 12 customer reports in Salesforce when the manager already knows you. New applicants should not copy that pattern without prior tenure proof.

What weak internship objectives share
They restate Education. Junior biology major with strong academic record belongs under Education, not in line one. Recruiters treat it as duplicate text and jump to Projects hoping for substance.
They lead with soft traits. Motivated, passionate, detail-oriented, and team player rarely appear in req keywords. Traits aren't searchable. Tools and outcomes are.
They describe what you want, not what you did. Seeking an internship to gain experience tells the reader you're early career. They already know that from your graduation date. Show one thing you already built or ran.
They name the employer's mission. Admiring our commitment to sustainability belongs in a cover letter after you've pasted two specifics from the posting. Objectives that flatter the brand without naming your tool look like empty customization.
They run long. Three sentences at the top push Projects off the first screen on some ATS previews. If you need three sentences of proof, you wrote a summary, not an objective. Cut it to two lines or delete the section and strengthen bullet one.
They contradict the rest of the file. A data objective that opens with Python while every bullet mentions only Excel confuses both parsers and humans. Align the tool in the objective with the tool in project bullet one.
They use pronouns without anchors. I am a dedicated student who… wastes words. Start with the role label or the tool. Dedicated student is still a trait, not proof.
See resume rejected by ATS when the whole file vanishes after upload, not just the objective line. Format problems beat wording problems more often than applicants expect.
