You're not hired for every practicum you survived. A Psychologist Resume for ATS still needs license status, EPPP pass line, and supervised hours in plain text, not a twelve-page academic CV pasted into Greenhouse.

If you're applying to a clinic req tonight, you'll want to check your resume for free against the posting. A sharp layout that hides your state license or EPPP pass still dies in iCIMS while a weaker file with dated internship bullets moves on.

They're not scoring your grad school personal statement. They can't find Licensed Psychologist when it lives inside a two-column academic CV. And you won't get a screen if the file never says supervised hours.

So put license, degree, and internship settings in dated blocks. A dissertation abstract is not a hiring resume. Neither is a twelve-page CV pasted into Taleo.

What hiring teams scan before the clinical interview

Hospital systems, community mental health agencies, VA clinics, and private practice groups all hire a different psychologist. They share one filter on your file. Can a credentialing coordinator see license number, EPPP status, and current supervised role in the first screen?

The parser does not read your training memoir. It looks for license, EPPP, internship, and modality tokens tied to dates.

Stage is pre-doctoral intern, postdoctoral fellow, licensed psychologist, or psychologist resident. License is state psychology license with number, or trainee status with supervisor named. Setting is outpatient, inpatient, integrated primary care, telehealth, or assessment clinic.

Paths into licensed psychology include PsyD or PhD training, APPIC internship match, postdoctoral fellowship, EPPP, and state licensure. None of those paths matter on page two if page one reads like a generic counselor with Skills: empathy, hard worker, teamwork.

I've screened stacks of psychology files in Workday and Greenhouse, and the applicants who stall list testing batteries in Skills while every Experience bullet still describes unrelated admin work.

Dense Skills sections are how qualified psychology applicants disappear. A sidebar that lists CBT, DBT, and trauma without a single dated clinical role often parses as keyword stuffing. Lever then shows no employment history while your internship hours sit invisible.

Clinical proof belongs in bullets under dated roles, not as adjectives. "Passionate about mental health" is a mood. "Co-facilitated 12-week DBT skills group for adults under licensed supervision, documented progress notes in Epic within 24 hours" is a hiring metric.

And the credential line matters. "Licensed Psychologist, California, PSY 12345, Active" beats "Dr. Smith" with no number. Sourcers search license tokens, EPPP pass date, and internship site names. They do not infer them from a degree abbreviation alone.

If you rotated through practicum sites before internship, date each leg. Don't merge three semesters into one paragraph. Pair gaps with employment gap examples recruiters accept so dissertation or exam prep reads as a labeled block, not unemployment.

Telehealth listings still want the same header tokens. Remote delivery does not relax credentialing. Type the platforms you used in a bullet with HIPAA-safe wording when the posting asks for virtual care.

Single-column layout is how Workday, Greenhouse, and iCIMS rebuild your timeline. A two-column academic CV often scrambles license lines into Skills named after graduation years.

This won't invent a license you do not hold. It stops a qualified file from dying because the parser never mapped you to licensed psychologist.

Put license, EPPP, and internship hours above publication lists

Open a single-column DOCX or PDF. 11-point Calibri. No tables. Contact line, then license and exam lines, then Experience. Education holds PsyD or PhD on its own dated line after your current clinical role unless you are still on internship only.

Copy-paste this block into the top of the file. Edit every bracket. Delete any line you cannot prove on a board lookup or transcript.

Confirm license status on the public board lookup for that state. The Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards publishes EPPP and mobility rules employers expect you to spell correctly. Type the license exactly as the board lists it.

Social Security numbers and full patient identifiers stay off the resume. Don't paste session notes or test protocols. One plain supervised-hours summary is enough for screening when the posting asks for training totals.

Edge case: You passed EPPP but the state license is still pending. List EPPP pass date and title yourself Psychologist Resident or Postdoctoral Fellow per board rules. Don't write Licensed Psychologist until the number posts.

Turn practicum and internship into dated training roles

Hiring managers buy people who already worked the setting on the req. An internship list under Education looks like school. A dated APPIC-style role with Month Year dates looks like employment.

Pre-doctoral intern, community mental health
Before: Skills: empathy, testing, research. Internship somewhere in 2024.
After: Pre-Doctoral Psychology Intern | County Mental Health | Columbus, OH | August 2024 to July 2025. Completed 1,800 supervised hours across outpatient and crisis walk-in. Conducted intake assessments and co-led DBT skills groups under licensed supervision, notes in Cerner within 24 hours.

Postdoc pivoting from assessment-heavy practicum
Before: Graduate student. Interested in therapy.
After: Postdoctoral Fellow | Regional Medical Center | Boise, ID | July 2025 to Present. Administered broad-band personality measures for adults in outpatient clinic under licensed supervision. Wrote integrated reports for primary care referrals within 5 business days.

Internships and practica belong as dated roles with supervisor context. Keep each to setting, Month Year range, and two proof bullets. Drop unrelated retail jobs unless you need to show continuous work.

Edge case: Posting wants telehealth. Add a bullet on secure video platforms and state licensure for remote patients. Don't list telehealth only under Skills as a buzzword.

Date doctoral training and APPIC match like corporate jobs

Month Year on degree conferral, internship start and end, and fellowship boundaries. Workday date fields hate "2020-2022" inside a sentence. They want endpoints they can map.

Spell credentials. Doctor of Psychology, Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology. Link internship placement to the APPIC match year in plain text when it helps credentialing, but the resume still needs Month Year dates a parser can read.

Assessment experience belongs in bullets, not test security violations. Name instrument families only when the posting requires them and describe populations and settings, not protocols or scores.

Modality lists do not replace work bullets. For clinic roles, park CBT, ACT, or EMDR in Experience beside the setting where you used them. Three dated bullets beat a dumped skills cloud with no employer.

Mirror the setting the posting actually runs

Psychologist on a req can mean integrated primary care, hospital consultation, forensic contract, or telehealth-only panel. Mirror the posting's setting words in the header. Then prove them in the first two bullets.

Copy-paste bullet skeleton (edit every bracket): "Provided [modality] for [population] in [setting], documented [EMR] within [timeframe], under supervision of [license type] until [Month Year]."

Edge case: Split time between two practicum sites in one year. List each site as a separate dated line with hours totals. Don't collapse six months into "various clinics" with no dates.

Publications and conference posters can sit after Experience for clinical hires. Three relevant lines beat a ten-page CV dump above your current role.

Open the posting in one tab and your resume in another. Highlight three nouns that repeat in the req. Those nouns belong in your header or the first bullet under your current role, spelled the same way the employer wrote them.

After you edit, export PDF and try to select the license line with your cursor. If you cannot select it, assume Workday cannot read it either.

Repeat each critical token twice: once in the header, once in a bullet. License numbers, EPPP pass month, and internship site names all benefit from the duplicate without keyword stuffing adjectives.

When a friend reads your top third in ten seconds, they should answer where you train or work now, what license or trainee line proves it, and what setting you serve. If they cannot, the parser will not do better.

CVs that parse as unlicensed counselor

Two-column resumes with a photo header. Workday reads columns out of order and turns your license year into a skill named 2019. One column. One reading order.

License buried inside Education. Parsers and credentialing staff treat missing license tokens as risk. Type the number and state on line two.

Every bullet about unrelated admin work. For a licensed psychologist req, that signals you're still outside clinical hours. Move non-clinical jobs down or cut them.

EPPP hidden until the interview. If the posting lists exam completion, put pass or scheduled date near the header. They will verify before an offer.

Assessment acronyms only in Skills. Broad-band and personality measure names count when a dated role repeats them with a population.

Licensed Psychologist title on a trainee file. You'll fail credentialing even if a parser lets you through.

Dumping every publication above internship. For a clinical hire, that signals you want a lab, not a caseload.

Job searching is already hard. None of this means the doctoral path was wasted. It means the file has to show licensed-ready clinical work, not just interest.

Match the posting before you spray apply to health systems

Hospital career sites sell mission language. Your packet sells parseable proof. Upload the resume you'll submit and check your resume for free against the same req. Fix license tokens, EPPP line, and internship bullets first.

When the req mentions telehealth or integrated care, add one setting bullet before you tweak fonts or colors. Use the job match score if you're choosing between outpatient and hospital versions of the same training. Two tools are enough.

Save a version named with the employer or role. You are not sending twenty unique novels. You are sending one parser-safe base file with the top third adjusted per posting.

License-ready header lines tonight

Doctoral training, APPIC internship, postdoc, and EPPP still sit on your path. They don't get you screened unless license number, exam status, and supervised hours parse in plain text on page one.

Write the header. Date every clinical role. Name settings and modalities in bullets. Match the care model in the req. Then leave the dissertation abstract off page one.

If a phone screen lands, pair this with Workday resume format habits so the same file survives the next hospital portal.

Save the academic CV for grant panels. Hiring clinics want plain text they can forward without retyping your license number.

If the posting asks for telehealth, type the platforms you used in a bullet with HIPAA-safe wording. Zoom for Healthcare and similar names belong in Experience, not only in Skills.
