You're not hired for every practicum you survived. A Neuropsychologist Resume for ATS still needs fellowship status, license state, and testing proof in plain text, not a twelve-page academic CV pasted into Greenhouse.
If you're uploading a hospital or clinic file tonight, check your resume for free against the posting first. A polished CV that hides license number or postdoc end date still fails the same parser as a first draft.
They're not scoring your dissertation title. They can't match pediatric neuropsych if your bullets only say psychological assessment.
So put fellowship hours, license, and population focus in text before you list every poster. APPIC match history is not a hiring resume. Neither is a publication dump above your current role.
Do these three things first
- Type state psychology license and fellowship dates on their own lines.
- Move internship and postdoc into Experience with Month Year dates and one battery bullet each.
- Upload a single-column PDF and run the posting through the free checker before Apply.
What parsers hunt on neuropsych files
Hospital systems, VA clinics, forensic contractors, and private practice groups all buy a different neuropsychologist. They share one filter. Can a human find, in the first screen, whether you are postdoc, licensed, and trained on the population they serve?
The parser does not read your training as a story. It looks for fellowship dates, license tokens, and assessment language as fields.
Stage is predoctoral intern, postdoctoral fellow, licensed clinical neuropsychologist, or psychologist pending licensure. License is state psychology license with number, or trainee status with supervisor named. Population is pediatric, geriatric, TBI, epilepsy, forensic, or general adult.
I've screened psychology stacks in Workday and iCIMS, and the neuropsych files that die hide the postdoc fellowship dates inside a dissertation paragraph.
Dense Education is how qualified fellows disappear. A paragraph that lists PhD, every practicum, thesis title, and honors in one blob often parses as one job with no dates. Taleo then shows a blank employment history while your testing hours sit invisible.
Testing hours belong in bullets under dated roles, not as a sentence under the university name. Completed 2,000 practicum hours in Education is a school metric. Ran 14 WISC-V batteries on an inpatient pediatric unit as a postdoc fellow is a hiring metric.
And the credential line matters. Jane Doe, PhD, ABPP-CN beats Dr. Doe with no board line when the req names board certification. Parsers and credentialing staff search ABPP, HSP, and license numbers. They do not infer them from a honorific.
If a research year sits between internship and fellowship, date it. Pair that line with employment gap examples recruiters actually accept so the gap reads as a dated block, not a hole.
Single-column layout is not aesthetic advice for a neuropsychology file. It is how Workday, Greenhouse, Lever, and iCIMS rebuild your timeline. A sidebar that lists WISC-V or RBANS often lands below jobs in the scrape, so the proof never ties to dates.
Month Year dates on every role matter more than a clever design. Parsers map July 2024 to Present as current employment. A bare 2024 in a sentence sometimes parses as a skill token, not a job end date.
Headers and footers are where contact info dies. Put phone, email, and city in the body text recruiters can copy. A graphic banner is invisible to most importers.
File name should be boring: Firstname-Lastname-Resume.pdf. A file named Resume-FINAL-v7.pdf still uploads, but recruiters lose you in a download folder when twenty candidates use the same name.
When a posting asks for a cover letter, keep it aligned with the header lines on the resume. Conflicting titles between letter and resume trigger a manual reject faster than a weak bullet.
If you are switching settings, keep the old role dated and honest. A gap with a label beats a merged block that makes two employers look like one messy job.
Skills lists should repeat tools you already used in Experience. A WISC-V or RBANS line in Skills without a dated bullet is noise. The bullet is the proof the filter can search.
Upload the same file you tested. Tweaking margins after a clean parse can re-break tables you forgot were still there.
Build a Neuropsychologist Resume for ATS
Put license, fellowship, and eligibility above the publication list
Open a single-column DOCX or PDF. 11-point Calibri. No tables. Contact line, then a header block, then Experience. Education follows the current role unless you are still on internship with no fellowship start date.
Copy-paste this block into the top of the file. Edit every bracket. Delete any line you cannot prove.
Copy-paste neuropsych header
[Full name], PhD or PsyD
[Postdoctoral Fellow, Clinical Neuropsychology] or [Licensed Clinical Neuropsychologist, State]
[State] psychology license #[number] · expires [Month Year] or Active · Supervisor: [name] if trainee
Authorized to work in the United States · [citizenship or visa type]
[email] · [phone] · [City, ST]
Confirm the license class on the public board lookup for that state. The APA accreditation page helps you spell program status the way credentialing expects.
Edge case: Dual track PhD with clinical and research roles. Put both credentials after the name. Lead Experience with the job the posting hired for.
Turn internship and fellowship into dated jobs
Recruiters hire people who currently test the population. An internship list under Education looks like school. A fellowship with Month Year dates looks like employment.
Postdoctoral fellow, pediatric neuropsychology
Before: Education: PhD Clinical Psychology, 2024. Practicum: assessment, therapy, consultation. Skills: WISC, WAIS, NEPSY.
After: Experience: Postdoctoral Fellow, Clinical Neuropsychology | Children's Hospital | City, ST | July 2025 to Present. Completed 32 WISC-V and 18 NEPSY-II evaluations on inpatient consults. Wrote integrated reports with ward teams in Epic within 48 hours. Education: PhD Clinical Psychology, State University, May 2024.
Edge case: Applying while fellowship is in progress. Title honestly as Postdoctoral Fellow. One battery bullet beats calling yourself Attending without a license.
Mirror the population the req actually serves
Neuropsychologist in a posting can mean pediatric, geriatric, forensic, rehab, or general adult. Mirror the posting's population words in the header. Then prove them in the first two bullets.
Forensic neuropsych contract role
Before: Experienced psychologist seeking forensic opportunities. Strong writing and assessment skills.
After: Licensed psychologist, [State], forensic neuropsychology fellowship completed. Completed 24 competency evaluations with court-ready reports on a 10-day turnaround template.
Rehabilitation TBI clinic
Before: Dr. Name. Skills: testing, therapy, leadership.
After: Postdoctoral Fellow, TBI rehab. Ran 40 RBANS and MoCA batteries on post-acute unit, with 12 return-to-work recommendations documented in the EMR.
Handle board credentials and training paths in plain text
Board certification and eligibility are not interchangeable. Write the American Board of Professional Psychology credential exactly as listed, with month and year if certified.
Internship and fellowship placement often flows through APPIC match data on your side, but the resume still needs Month Year dates a parser can map.
Publications do not replace dates. For clinical hires, park selected papers after Experience. Three relevant lines beat a dumped CV section.
Keep the letter to stage plus one testing proof
Cover letters for neuropsych roles fail when they retell graduate school. Name the role, name fellowship or license stage, tie one bullet to one posting requirement.
Copy-paste skeleton: Applying for [Role] as a [fellow / licensed neuropsychologist] with [license or trainee line]. At [employer] [one metric bullet on population or battery]. Available [date] and licensed or supervised in [state].
If the portal asks for a letter, use the cover letter generator, then paste the header facts so the letter and resume agree. Read why personalized cover letters convert better when you're tempted to mail-merge five health systems with the same dream paragraph.
Run this scrape check before you upload
Open the posting in one tab and your resume in another. Highlight three nouns that repeat in the req. Those nouns belong in your header or the first bullet under your current role, spelled the same way the employer wrote them.
Save a version named with the employer or role. You are not sending twenty unique novels. You are sending one parser-safe base file with the top third adjusted per posting.
After you edit, export PDF and try to select the license, URL, or TMS line with your cursor. If you cannot select it, assume Workday cannot read it either.
Keep a master DOCX without tables. PDF exports for upload only. Tables you add for spacing often reappear as scrambled jobs on import.
If the portal offers a plain text paste box, paste the same words that appear in the PDF header. Mismatches between paste and upload cause duplicate profiles that look like errors.
Date every gap longer than six weeks with a label you can defend on a phone screen. Training, travel, visa processing, and family leave each get one honest line with Month Year bounds.
Do not move Education above Experience unless you truly have no paid or clinical role to show. Students and fellows still lead with the role that produces the work the posting buys.
Repeat each critical token twice: once in the header, once in a bullet. License numbers, portfolio URLs, demo links, and TMS names all benefit from the duplicate without keyword stuffing adjectives.
Strip icons that replace words. LinkedIn, Instagram, and Linktree logos in place of URLs are invisible to most scrapers.
When a friend reads your top third in ten seconds, they should answer where you work now, what credential or link proves it, and what setting you serve. If they cannot, the parser will not do better.
Read the uploaded preview if the employer shows one. Some portals display the scraped jobs list. If your current role is missing, fix dates before you send another application.
Bold one line per major section. The line should be the rule you want remembered, not the keyword phrase itself.
Keep pronouns consistent. Third-person summaries about yourself read like someone else wrote the file. Write as you, with contractions, in bullets.
If you use an acronym, spell it once in the same bullet. HR readers and parsers both benefit from the first expansion.
Avoid stacking three adjectives before a verb. One verb, one object, one proof detail is enough for a screening pass.
Print the PDF once. Margins that clip the last digit of a license number happen more often than people admit.
When you finish, search the file for the word responsible. Rewrite those bullets with a verb that names the work product.
Predoctoral assessment practica can sit as short dated lines if you have no internship start yet. Keep each to setting, Month Year, and one battery with a population tag.
Forensic and rehab populations use different verbs. Forensic wants report turnaround and court-ready language. Rehab wants functional recommendations tied to a unit name you can share.
Telehealth testing listings still list state license and supervisor rules in the header. Remote delivery does not relax credentialing. It moves the same tokens earlier.
If you rotate supervisors mid-fellowship, update the supervisor line the week the change posts. A stale supervisor name triggers credentialing rework.
Selected publications belong after Experience unless the posting is research-primary. Three lines with journal and year beat a ten-page appendix.
Psychometrist roles want throughput and QC language. Lead with batteries and turnaround, not therapy modalities you will not use on that desk.
VA and hospital systems often use iCIMS. Test the same PDF there after you test Workday. The reading order bugs differ but the fix is still one column.
Cover letters that repeat the dissertation abstract waste the recruiter's minute. One population sentence and one battery sentence are enough when the resume carries dates.
Where academic CVs break parsers
Two-column academic CVs. Workday reads left column then right, or scrapes in visual order and turns your license into a skill named 2019. One column. One reading order.
License inside a footer or letterhead graphic. Humans like crests. Parsers skip them. If the number is not typed, it is not in the requisition record.
Battery acronyms only in Skills. WISC, WAIS, and RBANS count when a dated role repeats them with a population.
Calling yourself neuropsychologist while still on trainee license. Use fellow or psychologist trainee until unrestricted license posts.
Dumping every publication above fellowship. For a clinical hire, that signals you want a lab.
Hiding visa or work authorization. Hospital and federal contractors will ask. Make the first screen honest.
Job searching is already hard. None of this means the training was wasted. It means the file has to say where you are testing, not where the catalog said you would be in ten years.
Telehealth neuropsych listings still want typed license state and supervisor rules in the header. Remote delivery does not remove credentialing. It moves the same tokens earlier in the file.
Parse before you polish the CV
Dissertation formatting belongs to the university. Hiring packets belong to parsers. Upload the resume you will actually submit and check your resume for free against the same posting. Fix header order, fellowship dates, and license tokens first.
If the portal wants a letter, keep it as short as the header. Use the cover letter generator, then add one battery or population line from Experience.
Header lines to fix tonight
Doctoral degree, internship, fellowship, and state license still sit on the file. They do not get you screened unless fellowship dates, license status, and testing proof parse in plain text.
Write the header. Date the degrees. Move testing hours into bullets. Match the population the posting hired for.
If a screen appears, pair this with Workday resume format that parses cleanly so the file is not doing all the work alone.
Frequently asked questions
Put the postdoctoral fellowship and internship as dated Experience roles with Month Year lines. Keep the doctoral degree in Education with graduation month. Workday maps jobs to employment history. A fellowship buried in Education often parses as a single school line with no supervisor or setting.
Name the batteries you actually administered in bullets tied to a dated role. A flat Skills list of acronyms without context looks like keyword stuffing. Mirror the posting language for pediatric, adult, or forensic populations. Drop batteries you have not run in the last two years unless the req names them.
Write the credential exactly as the board lists it, with month and year if certified. If you are board eligible, say board eligible and name the board. Do not write ABPP certified without the credential line. Parsers and credentialing staff search the plain text, not a logo.
Upload a single-column PDF or DOCX with selectable text. Put license state and number on a typed line. Avoid two-column academic CVs, header graphics, and publication dumps above your current fellowship. iCIMS and Workday read left to right. A pretty CV that scrambles dates still fails the screen.
